Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2014 my Dad was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma. At this point the cancer didn't know who it had got involved with!

Dad's determination and perseverance got him through a drastic operation to remove the tumour, and the debilitating chemo- and radiotherapy treatments that he undertook everyday for 6 weeks travelling to and from London by train.

He had finally got the all clear in May 2016 and been able to live with the life-changing consequences that he had suffered because of treatment and he had started to return to living a normal life, when the cancer struck again in July 2016. This time, unfortunately, there were no treatment options available to cure him.

His love for his family, his lust for life and his will-power to fight the cancer never abandoned him. Even though he knew his time was short, he made sure he had time to go through his bucket list: he refreshed his motorbike skills (on a freezing November day, that took him 2 days to recover from!) and still managed to sail in the Caribbean.

His final wish was to have the whole family together for Christmas, which was granted during his last week.

Unfortunately in December 2016, he lost his battle surrounded by us all throughout his final days.

With the help from Pilgrims Hospice Nurses, Dad was able to be comfortable, pain-free and spend his final days at home.

My friends and I are attempting to complete Tough Mudder which is a 12 mile course with 20 challenging obstacles (including electric shocks and ice cold water) in London, 6th May 2017.

The money raised shall be sent to Pilgrims Hospice so they can continue their fantastic work and enable more nurses to attend to the needs of terminally ill people and their families.
